Article requests: articles can be sourced and supplied on request, all you need to do is fill out an article request form.
Athens password: you will need your Open Athens username and password to gain access to My Journals, databases, E-books and BNF mobile applications. You will automatically be signed-up to Open Athens when you join the library, but you an also self-register.
Be Aware: sign up to our regular current awareness updates, there are plenty to choose from including updates by condition and professional practice.
Book reviews: rate and review books featured in our catalogue via your online library account- we are always on the look out for new reviews for our mental health fiction collection!
Borrowing: once a member of the library, you can borrow ten books for up to four weeks at a time. You can also your books online using your reader number and PIN.
Catalogue: search and reserve books from our stock via our online catalogue and check out our new and most popular books and e-books.
Computer access: there are a number of Trust PC's available at both sites with internet access, printing and headphones for both staff and service users.
Critical appraisal: book onto one of our critical appraisal training sessions and learn new skills and tools to help you evaluate research and evidence.
Databases: search a range of medical databases including PsycInfo, CINAHL, Medline and Embase for the latest healthcare information and evidence.
Donations: we run a patient book trolley at both Redwoods and Stafford and would be grateful for any book donations; we accept a wide range of material including magazines, craft books, fiction and coffee table books.
Dynamed Plus: we've recently set up a one year trial of Dynamed Plus, an online database of clinical evidence summaries written by doctors and updated daily. Log in with your SSSFT athens.
E-Books: the library houses a growing number of e-books which are all featured in the library catalogue. You can access them using your Open Athens username and password, and can choose to read them online or download them to your device.
E-Learning: access our My Journals e-learning module via the training and e-learning page to gain a step-by-step guide on how to access and search online journals.
Enquiry service: staff at both sites are available from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday to answer all of your queries and requests. You can visit us in person or alternatively you can telephone, email or tweet us.
Easy Evidence Search: search for articles, books and E-books in one place by entering key words in the Easy Evidence Search bar. The tool will then arrange your results so that materials that you have full text access to appear first.
Fees and charges: all of our services are free of charge for staff and we do not charge late fees.
Fiction: borrow a book from our mental health fiction and biography collection, search either 'FIC' or 'BIO' in our online catalogue.
Inductions: we offer library inductions for individuals and groups, in which we guide you through our resources and help you to access information and materials relevant to your areas of interest.
Journals: gain access to national and local e-journals. Browse our A-Z list, or search for a specific journal by following the link to My Journals. Our libraries hold current print journals and older issues which can be used for reference. To access My Journals, you will need an Open Athens username and password.
Literature searches: we provide a literature searching service for staff and a guided literature search for staff who are undertaking academic study.
Location: our Stafford site is located within the Education Centre at St George's hospital and our Redwoods site is located on the first floor of the Wenlock building.
Library cards: we do not issue library cards, so you don't need to worry about bringing it with you when you take out books!
Lync: you can contact the library with any queries via Lync, simply search for 'Library Services'
Mobile librarian: if you are unable to visit the library in person, we can arrange for one of our library staff to visit you at your workplace.
Opening hours: both site libraries are staffed from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
Out of hours access: out of hours access can be arranged at both sites for Trust staff. Please contact us for more details.
PIN: when you become a member you will be sent a library PIN. Your PIN gives you access to your online library account. If you have forgotten, or would like to change your PIN please contact us.
Printing and photocopying: MFD printers are available to use at both sites. We provide free photocopying of library information for Trust staff and there is a small charge for personal photocopying.
Pinterest: Follow the library's Pinterest account to view all of our latest reading lists, books and E-books: SSSFT Library
Postal Loans: If you are unable to visit the library in person we can post your book to your workplace.
Quiet study: both sites offer areas of quiet study, including desks with power points.
Reading lists: we can help source items on your reading list from other libraries, as well as our own stock, through our inter-library loans system.
Reading groups: if you are interested in leading or helping run a patient reading group within the acute or community sectors within the Trust, we are able to offer support and materials.
Referencing: library staff are on hand to help you with any queries about how to reference your essays correctly.
Renewals: You can renew each book up to four times, unless another user has requested it.
Returning books: Return your books in person, via the internal mail or using the self-service machines at each site.
Service users and carers: library staff can help service users search for quality healthcare information and can offer advice on how to access trustworthy sources. Please see our useful resources section for further information on what we offer for service users.
Studying: we offer a range of study guides and materials and can offer training to help you with your studies.
Self-service: we now have a self-service machine at each site- so you can take books out with your smartcard when the library is closed! Register your Smartcard with a member of library staff to take out books using our self-service machines.
Synthesised searches: if you request a literature search to inform guidelines, service development or similar, you can also request a summary of the key results as part of the search. Simply tick the 'Sythesis' option on the Literature Search request form.
Text messaging service: sign up to our text messaging service and we will notify you a few days before your books are due back.
Training: we provide training in literature searching, using the internet more effectively, study skills and critical appraisal. We can arrange one-to-one and group sessions both in the library and your workplace.
